I have been planning a trip to Europe for over 9 years. Actually, since high school graduation but something has always gotten in the way. First it was college, then the opportunities to begin, develop, and further my “career”. It hasn’t been until recently that I have had the money, the time, and the freedom to actually make the trip. [Read: I just grew the necessary kahones to quit my job and chase my dream.] So for the past two months I’ve been talking to every European member of my family that I can get contact info for; learning as much as I can about the opportunities there. From a cousin in Holland, I’ve received GREAT advice on where to start and which family members to meet. Through my mother, I was lucky enough to be introduced (electronically) to some family members of my Indonesian grandfather, who I hope to see while couch surf through the Netherlands.
But today I got INCREDIBLE NEWS!
While talking to an extended family member on Facebook I learned that there is a family reunion planned in Greece for three days at the end of October. This going to be the perfect opportunity for me to collect up-to-date photos and accurate lineage information for the family tree I hope to create through my trip.
I’ve sent the info to all my American family members and begged them to make the trip. Fingers crossed, I’ll be posting a full family portrait come early November.
