A few nights ago Dre and I had many drinks at a bar in Amsterdam with my cousins. The location was great and the DJ was spinning a wide range of music. The music was decent, but after a few tracks I started missing my own iTunes library. So this morning Andrea and I put on some home brewed play lists and got back into the NYC groove a bit. Our “Homesick Playlist” includes many genre’s many sources and two different influences that merge to give us a few hours of memories from home, and some people we miss so much.

More than a few months back, Tom Fletcher answered my desperate plea for musical enlightenment. When Dre and I first started dating, I was indie rock ignorant. Other than the few bands that came across my Pandora, I was unable to hold a musical conversation with Andrea and her friends. (Specifically Schwa) Tom provided me with a proverbial sample platter of bands new in old in many genre’s. Most of these songs are on the HSPL, but some of our favs are below.

From the vast expanse that is Andrea’s music collection, she has introduced me to the below additions to the ever growing HSPL. Additionally, she has agreed to “pay forward” the Fletcher favor and burn some music for Esmeralda (my dutch cousin). A link to this playlist is coming soon.

I am Going to Miss New York City

Almost everyone knows that New York City is the most expensive metropolis in the U.S., but with that cost of living comes one of the GREATEST cosmopolitan lifestyles the world has to offer. For that, I will miss The Big Apple.

Food, music, art, and sports, are just some of the benefits of nesting in one of the five Burroughs, but the simple things are what I will miss the most about The City That Never Sleeps.

Recently I have begun to enjoy the down and dusk wait that happens daily at the Queensboro platform. Whether I am waiting for the The 7 on the way to work or the N,W on my way to Dre’s apartment, the view, the breeze, and the noise have all become the indicator that it is time for me to switch from home mode to work mode and back.

I’m very excited about my next move, I’m embracing the change that is on the horizon, I’m even imagining far fetched possibilities like obtaining my dutch citizenship, but as the time to leave draws closer, I can’t help but realize all the wonderful nuances about NYC that have become part of my routine. As I notice these courtesies, I am enjoying them as deeply as I can.

So today was NUTS, I was running around all morning with vendors and new business and drinking way too much coffee. The only thing that slowed me down was a “Mondo” food coma. Even without the bun it put me to sleep.

Do you think they’ll have Goodburger in Europe?

Probably not, but I will always have this….
